Frequently Asked Questions

Are buoyancy aids provided?

Yes, we provide buoyancy aids for everyone who hires our paddleboards or sit-on-top kayaks. It's mandatory to wear them before getting on the water and throughout your session. We’ll ensure they are properly fitted before you start.

I cannot swim. Can I still hire from you?

Participants should be able to swim at least 50 meters.

Do I have to pre-book my hire?

We accept walk-ins but recommend booking in advance to ensure equipment availability. Pre-booking is especially important during peak times like weekends and sunny days.

Are there any age restrictions?

Yes, our insurance policy restricts us to offering SUPs and single kayaks to individuals aged 12 and over. Double kayaks can be hired by those aged 12 and above if accompanied by an adult. Anyone under 18 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian who is at least 21 and also renting a stand-up paddleboard or kayak during the same session.

How far can we paddle?

Our team can advise you on suitable distances based on your experience and ability. You must remain in the designated operating zone within the Hamble River. Outlined here:

You must return to the center by the end of your hire session to allow other users access. Additional charges may apply if you exceed your booked time.

Can I paddle with my dog?

We do not allow pets on our hire equipment or during lessons.

What should I wear for kayaking?

For sit-on-top kayak hire, avoid jeans and heavy cotton trousers. Lightweight, layered clothing is best. While falling in is unlikely, you may get a damp bottom from water in the kayak seat. Wear suitable footwear to walk from our base to the water, as the gravel can be uncomfortable for bare feet. Flip-flops are ideal. Bring sun protection like sunscreen, a hat, and sunglasses (with a retaining cord). A spare change of clothes and a towel is recommended for after your session.

What should I wear for stand-up paddleboarding?

For paddleboard hire, wear lightweight clothes, such as shorts or leggings with a t-shirt. On cooler days, bring a fleece or light jumper. Suitable footwear is necessary for walking from our base to the water, with flip-flops being a good choice. Bare feet on the board offer better balance. Remember sun protection like sunscreen, a hat, and sunglasses (with a retaining cord). A spare change of clothes and a towel are recommended for after your session.

Where is the nearest place to park?

We offer a free car park on-site exclusively for our customers.

Do you have changing rooms on-site?

Yes, we have changing rooms available for our customers.

Do you have somewhere I can leave my belongings while I am out on the water?

Yes, we provide free lockers at the Hamble Paddle hub.

What if the weather is bad?

As an outdoor activity provider in the UK, weather can be unpredictable. We cancel hires if winds exceed 20mph with gusts to 30mph or in case of heavy rain. We will contact all booked customers if we need to cancel due to weather conditions.

Are vouchers refundable?

Unfortunately, we cannot refund credit or activity vouchers.
